From 8/2001 to 4/2003 I was working as a research associate at Lancaster University in the UK. In 1995/1996 I did an MSc in computing at the Manchester Metropolitan University in the Department of Computing. Studying in Manchester is really great - I enjoyed my stay very much. My master thesis was on modual neural networks. Back in Germany I finished my course in informatics at the University of Ulm in the department of Computer Science. I obtained my diploma degree ("Diplom") in 1997. At the same time I was working as a student research assistant in the Department of Distributed Systems. I am now a research assistant at the Telecooperation Office (TecO) at the University of Karlsruhe. My central research interests are context awareness, situated interaction, and ubiquitous computing. Currently I am involved in organizing a workshop on situated interaction in ubiquitous computing at the CHI2000 Conference. |

I am involved in the European Project TEA
(Technology for Enabling Awareness #26900). In this project we are investigating
the recognition of contexts from low level sensor information. I am especially
interested how this information can be used to improve interaction with ultra-mobile
devices. Results have been published at HUC99, feel free to have a look at the paper
Advanced Interaction in Context
(PDF, 343KB), or check out the
Slides from the talk.
Together with SAP-CEC we are investigating how WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) technology can be used to develop new applications to enable truly ubiquitous access to information. Please have a look at our WAP-pages - wap.teco.edu (you should use a WAP-phone or a simulator).
