BACHELOR THESIS: KEY INFLUENCERS OF CONSISTENT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ENGAGEMENT

Background

“Gesundheit zum Mitmachen” is a municipal health promotion initiative launched in Bad Schönborn with the goal of advancing community health through sports and physical activity. Initiated in 1992, a unique longitudinal study has followed up to 1,090 participants over a span of 29 years, integrating both panel and follow-up components. Participants provided comprehensive data via questionnaires addressing their physical activities, work situations, mental health, and eating habits, as well as regular health assessments conducted by physicians. Aim of this thesis is to identify the key factors that support sustained engagement in sports and overall well-being.

Tasks

  1. Review the study documentation and manually consolidate or reduce dimensionality based on contextual relevance.
  2. Investigate how work situations, mental health, and eating habits choices have changed over time, identifying patterns or shifts in these areas.
  3. Conduct cluster analysis on the participants each year to identify distinct subgroups based on the aforementioned aspects. Then, these clusters will be compared over the years to determine how the participants have changed over time and the parameters that contributed to these changes.

Requirements

  • Strong programming skills (Python)
  • At least basic knowledge of machine learning and data analysis
  • At least A2-level German proficiency preferred
