DIGITAL HUB SBH
Baden-Württemberg established ten digital hubs and 3 subject-specific digital hubs. The St. Georgener Technology Center (TZ) is the physical contact point of the “Digital Hub SBH” consortium – the regional digital hub for the Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg (SBH) region, of which the KIT is a member. The KIT maintains a branch office – a satellite – of the Smart Data Solution Center Baden-Württemberg (SDSC-BW) in the TZ.
The SDSC-BW is a neutral as well as independent institution that facilitates access to smart data technologies for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In this context, the SDSC-BW provides information about the advantages and possible uses of internal company data and offers so called “potential analyses”. In cases with a scientific KPI identification, further cooperation opportunities with the KIT and SDSC-BW partner companies arise in the context of funded follow-up projects.
The Digital Hub is based on four technological orientations besides 3 fields of action. The technological directions include:
- 3D Printing
- Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
- Cyberphysical Systems / Internet of Things
- Extended Reality (AR/VR)
The fields of action contain:
- Education / Professional Training
- Course of formation
- Research and Development
The KIT is represented via the SDSC-BW in the fields of action education and professional training next to research and development with the technological focus on artificial intelligence (ML). In the context of R&D, primarily regional SMEs are supported in the development of data-oriented business models through the application of potential analyses. Potential analyses enable companies to systematically uncover problems, make hidden potentials usable and speedup the implementation of data-driven processes.
In the context of education and training, the KIT is leading the development of the SME-oriented training format “Data Analyst” of the IHK Schwarzwald Baar Heuberg. In addition to compiling the curriculum, software-technical content for on-site as well as distance learning was also developed.
Both measures will strengthen the regional SME sector in southwestern Germany in the field of efficient data use and optimize competitiveness through increased innovative strength.
